News server notes for ClariNet Subscribers
If you're running something other than INN
or C News, then we would like to know about
it so we can cover important details here. However, here are
the general principles you should cover with any news server.
- If getting an NNTP feed from us, allow our news feeding machines in.
If your tool works like INN, you can allow "newsfeeder.clari.net",
otherwise allow all machines in either the "*.clarinet.com" or
"*.clari.net" domains feed access to your news server.
- Make sure your NNTP newsreading server does not allow access by
users outside your site licenced machines, however, if possible,
allow ClariNet machines (as named above) read access to your NNRP/NNTP
server.
- Check files that control outgoing news feeds. Make sure that
no ClariNet feeds are slipping out. Check for feeds of "all groups"
that don't exclude ClariNet.
- Make sure you are ready to handle articles in the "clari" news
hierarchy and with the special distributions for your edition.
- Put comments in the configuration files for your news software so
other admins, or people who take on your duties, will know to take care
not to let ClariNet leak.
- Don't feed the entire control group out to others. It is not
copyrighted, but control leaks can be a pain for all.
- Can your software help us with auditing? If you get readership
data on groups we would love to get ahold of it. Contact us.
