Burning Man Photography & Panoramas

Burning Man Photography & Panoramas

Everybody who goes to Burning Man with a camera wants to somehow capture all of it. That's not possible, but taking giant panoramic photos is as close as I have come. Staring in 1999, I began putting them up at full resolution in an installation at Burning Man, for the past 12 years seen on the Esplanade and other locations.

They are also here on the web (now at full resolution, or as much as your screen can do) with my galleries of still photos and photo essays, and other articles I have written related to Burning Man.

The later shots are the largest and most spectacular, as I've gotten better, and better equipment, with time. 2002 features the first good night-panorama. 2003 features a night shot from the man and the biggest (1/4 gigapixel) that I have taken. 2004 features a shot from a cherrypicker on the very centerline of the city. 2006 features a shot of the burn. 2008 has the temple burn and a shot from Babel.

Buying Panoramas

I have some of the panoramas on my walls. One surrounds my staircase and takes me back to Burning Man each trip up and down the stairs. Generally, the Burning Man LLC restricts the sale of photographs taken at BRC. They have consented to the sale of these images provided a donation is made to the Black Rock Arts Foundation in the range of $25 (but they are of course happy should you give more.) I can send prints to you like you saw on the playa for about $10 per square foot. (Thus a 10' by 1' image would be $100 plus the donation, plus shipping.)

Warning (or teaser) -- there is nudity in these photos. But frankly, if you're going to be like half the visitors and click only on the photos that might have a naked breast in them, there are really much better sites in the BM photo archives for that.

Articles and other projects

Here are other articles and stories of other projects I have done at Burning Man.
